Making my own car lights!

I was researching and came across these artists that do 'light graffiti'. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
This is where they create art using lights. I thought this was amazing! Straight away I wanted to create my own car lights but i wasn't sure how to.
When I was taking pictures of my clay light boxes I accidentally moved the camera and got a stream of light comming from the boxes. This looked really like a car light..Bingo! :D I decided to do this using different ways to create my light.

Here I used poy. Poy are two colourful balls attached to two seperate strings. Circus people swing these two strings in different ways to create amazing light shows. I came up with brillant pictures from using the poy. I think they really resembled car lights.
Here I used two flash lamps and just swang them around the room like a crazy person! Because I used two and they were white I thought the really looked like the headlights of a car.
Here I used two glowsticks to create my light. Although they didn't turn out near as well as the poy or flashlamps, I think they still slighty resembled car lights, and they made some nice light graffiti anyway!

I really enjoyed making my own car lights. I found this the most fasinating part of the project because no matter how hard I tried I could never get the same line or shape twice. I found it exciting not knowing how the pictures would turn out!

Adding a bit more movement to my work!

I wanted to add more movement to the shapes of the car lights. I think they were starting to get abit stiff and life-less.

I dragged pieces of matieral comming from the shapes like the way a light drags from the car light itself.

I did this using many different mediums like...
Crepe paper and PVA>>

Tissue paper and PVA>>

<<Emroidery thread on black and white paper
<< Chalk pastels on stretched baby wipes

I think this gave the shapes great movement!

the different colours of light...

I was taking photos of cars passing on a wet road. One photo in particular I thought had amazing colours from car and street lights. In this piece Donald maier made car lights illuminate on the page by using pastels.

I tried to do this too using pastels from a photo I took of the traffic on Clare street.

more felt making :)

With these two pieces of felt I layed the raw wool down in the shapes of the car lights before felting it.

I also used embroidery threads and feathers to mix in with the felt.

I used colours of car and street lights in these pieces.

making some felt :)

I went to the felt work shop that was on at the beginning of the year and made felt for the first time. I loved making felt and knew straight away I had to incorporate it into my project. On the day of the workshop I made different pieces of felt using the colours of carlights.

One of these I cut up in to pieces and formed one of the shapes of the carlights from it.

After the workshop I did this again lying the felt up against raw wool.

TOO MUCH COLOUR!!!!

I think I was getting carried away with colour. My sketchbook was starting to look a little too rainbow like, and it was driving me mad! I photocopied some of my sketchbook to see what things would look like in black and white.

I was really glad I did this. It made me notice the line of the shapes more and how the colour over powered them alot!

I began to re-draw the shapes in different ways but at the same time only using black and white. I needed a break from colour for a while.
I realised just a small amount of colour or pastel like, simple colours looked better than bright colours all thrown together. It made it all a little less chaotic and made it all about the shape.

PVA and crepe paper...

I was playing around more with threads and crepe paper using the colours of car lights against a black background.

I splashed abit of pva glue mixed with water on these to see what would happen. I loved the way it blended the colours of the crepe paper and crinkled the black sugar paper. I want to make a sort of 3D out of this.

I did this piece. I found the pva on top of crepe paper made an amazing texture. I  loved the way the colours blended together like the way the colours of the car lights blend together.
I did three seperate pieces of the shapes of the car lights in crepe and pva. I joined them so one shape would blend into another, like the way car lights blend into eachother.
