:)

I simply filled in the shapes with a negative black colour, and placed them on a background of all the colours the car lights make.
I thought this series of shapes was really interesting. It gave me ideas for prints, paintings, and much more...
I wanted to paint one of these shapes in large scale. I wanted it on a background similar to this. I wanted to show all the colours car lights make but at the same time show the movement within those colours..

I used a palette knife to give the paint movement and make the colours blend in with eachother. I reversed it so that the shape of the car light was negative and instead the background was made up of colour.  I just used one of the shapes in this painting. I thought a simple shape against this chaotic background worked better.

I started playing around with these shapes to try and come up with some ideas. I seen different shades of white, yellow, orange, red, green, blue, and gold in these lights. I tried to incorporate these colours into my pieces...
I outlined them with colour...
I filled them with colour...
I layered them over eachother on top of colour...

....And then ideas started flowing :)
I started looking at the movement of lights when cars speed. I took loads of pictures of this and loved the shapes the lights make in photos.
I took some of my most interesting pictures and made a mini colage of them.

Then I got some tracing paper and just traced around the lights. I came up with really weird shapes, shapes that you wouldn't think came from car lights! I thought they were really cool. I decided then I was going to stick to the movment of car lights and thats what I'd focus on for the rest of my project.

<  These are just some of the many shapes I came up with!

some knitting :)

Watching my mam knitting one day I noticed the pattern knitting makes looks like the pattern on a car tire.
I've been trying to incorporate knitting into my project so i tought this was a good way to do that!

<< i wanted to make a design like this (a tire's pattern) out of knitted wool!
I seen this artist painted the wheels of cars in Berlin to see the track marks they'd make on the road when driving. I thought this piece was really interesting!

I started concentrating on the marks tires make from speeding... I thought this would look cool running through paint.
So i got dinky cars, and I must admit had way to much fun doing this :)

I seen this stop sign on the road..and for some reason I really wanted to embroider it! Probly not my most thoughtout of decision =P I tried doing sketches to give me an idea that would make sense, but i couldn't resisted the urge to just embroider it! So for no reason atal here is my embroidered stop sign! (if your wondering why it's half finished, it's because I realised it was abit bonkers and made no sense!)

5th November

So I think the accidents idea was abit too complicated… I think I’ve been jumping from one idea to the next way too quickly! So I decided to go back to the start, back using ‘speed’ as my theme.  I did some mind maps and I realised there’s so much I can do with the speed of cars. I nearly came up with too many ideas!!

So one of the things I looked at was the marks cars make on the road when there speeding. I took one picture and focused
on it. I liked this picture because when I closed up on the skid mark I found it didn’t look like a skid mark at all.

I thought the road looked like small circular shapes. I thought of how the wheels that made the marks are also circular shaped. I wanted to do a collage from something which would be a replica of this picture. It could be just me, but I think wheels resemble buttons. I seen before where artists have made collages from buttons and i found it really interesting. So I did this..

Half way through making this collage I thought it looked like a cool fashion accessory. I drew some sketches of different ways the piece could be used as an accessory.

trying a 3D..

I like sculpture and I wanted to do a 3D.. I thought about how leaving a plug turned on in a socket can cause fires.. I didnt just want to sculpt a simple plug in a socket though... I thounght about how the plug and socket would melt from the fire it caused. I thought trying to sculpt this would be really interesting. I decided I'd paint the sculpture using colours that represent fire!

my next step...

I thought the idea on speed and crashes was too limited. I started brainstorming about crashes and began to think about other accidents and how they happen. I realised the most simple, innocent looking scenes can cause outraegous accidents. I then researched this.

I wanted to do a series of simplistic images that all had the potential accidents. I did these using different mediums.

my next step with the project...

.I felt working with cars speeding and crashing was too limited, so i brainstormed abit. car crashes made me think about other accidents. i started thinking about different types of accidents like fires, burns, floods, people falling..etc. then i started to think about how these accidents were caused. i realised the most simple of things can cause a huge accident. started researching and sketching on this idea

movement and motion

In our first week of art and design year 1, we were given the title 'movement and motion' for our project.
i didn't know where to start so i went with the first idea that came to mind...speed! And of course when thinking of speed i straight away looked at images of cars. i liked the way photograghs of speeding cars could capture the movement of the cars and their lights.

i began to collect images of speeding cars. i then looked how cars crash from speeding. i looked at the many different types of crashes and then transformed them onto paper. i done painting and drawings of crashes. i looked uo styles of various artists. i combined these styles with my own to make the drawings and paint different.
